Most people who visit White Pine tell us, “It was nothing like I expected.” You see, we’re not very churchy. You’ll notice that we dress casually, you’ll meet someone who is ready to help your kids find their place, and you’ll smell fresh, hot coffee.

Here you can blend in and explore the Christian faith with no pressure. But we also make it easy for you to join a smaller group if you’d like to connect with others who are seeking to learn more about what it means to follow Jesus.

When the service begins, you won’t hear organ music; you’ll hear a worship band that sounds a lot like the music you listen to every day. And the message you hear will relate the Bible to your everyday life, in down-to-earth language rather than religious lingo.

After the message, you will not be asked for money. But if you fill out a welcome card, we’ll mail you a gift card to Dunkin’ Donuts to thank you for visiting.

When the service ends, feel free to grab a second cup of coffee and stay as long as you’d like!

Our Story

In 1999, three couples began meeting together to pray for something that did not yet exist—a beginner-friendly church in the heart of the north-of-Portland community. Two years later, in October 2001, White Pine Church held its first Sunday service at North Yarmouth Memorial School. Then, as now, a mix of pre-Christians, new Christians and seasoned Christians came together to express their love for God and to explore how the teachings of Jesus applied to their everyday lives.

We began meeting at Greely Middle School in 2007, and we acquired a between-Sundays Ministry Center in 2011. The pandemic of 2020 moved our Sunday services to the Ministry Center, where, in addition to two Sunday services, we now produce a live stream for those who cannot attend in-person. We have a staff of four, six elders and dozens of volunteers who are dedicated to serving the hundreds of adults, youth and children who attend White Pine every week.

Our mission is to help people find and follow Jesus. What that means for you is that we exist to help you grow spiritually, no matter where you are in your journey.

If you’re brand new to Christianity—if you’re just checking it out, or you’re taking your first steps as a follower of Christ—we are committed to helping you get off to a great start. In fact, we believe that we have a special calling to make White Pine a place where both pre-Christians and new Christians can begin to investigate and then follow Jesus without going through a culture shock.Yet we are equally committed to helping Christians at all maturity levels achieve their full potential.

If you have been a Christian for a while, White Pine is a place to keep growing personally and to help others take their next step toward Christ. We want to help you follow Jesus so closely that you become a natural magnet for others to want to know more about Him.

Our Vision

Since 2001, we have been helping people find and follow Jesus in the most unchurched region in America. Less than 5% of those who live in Cumberland County attend a “Protestant Evangelical” church, while 67% have no religious affiliation at all. And in the communities northeast of Portland, there is no other beginner-friendly church like White Pine.

The artery that connects these communities is Interstate 295. In 2019 we miraculously acquired 20 acres next to I-295 in Cumberland, and we are now in the process of preparing to build a new church facility on that land. As part of our church family you can help create this new epicenter of ministry to the 50,000 people who live near us but have yet to experience God’s love through us.
